Nelson Gomes
Short CV
Nelson G. M. Gomes started his scientific activity in 2005, being portrayed as a multidisciplinary approach in the field of Natural Products, addressing the chemical characterization and the therapeutic potential of molecules and extracts obtained from medicinal plants and marine fungi. The main research area is focused on the discovery of substances of natural origin with therapeutic potential, mainly aiming the treatment of diseases with an inflammatory background. The active collaboration with institutions in Guinea-Bissau and Thailand have been allowing to deliver experimental data of the ethnomedicinal use of plants from local floras.
Author or co-author of 36 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and 2 book chapters, in the scientific domains of Chemistry, “Drug Discovery” and Ethnopharmacology. Nelson G. M. Gomes presented his research (more than 40 oral or panel presentations) in several national and international conferences (China, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Portugal, Spain and Thailand).
He is a member of the editorial board of the international scientific journals Pharmacognosy Magazine and Current Forensic Science, member of the evaluation committee of Marine Drugs, and has been frequently requested to act as a reviewer for several international journals, namely Cancer, Evidence-Based Complementary Alternative Medicine, Food Research International , International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Journal of Functional Foods, and Frontiers in Pharmacology, being awarded as a ‘Top reviewer in Pharmacology and Toxicology’ in 2018 and 2019 by Publons/Web of Science (https://publons.com/researcher/630102/nelson-goncalo-mortagua-gomes/).
